Sometimes it feels like we are “just hanging” in here. This photo of our grandson is when he climbed up on a chair and hung himself on the table edge and the chair scooted away. Our lives get like that sometimes. We get to where we think we should be but then we end up hanging there for awhile.

Never the less, God’s word never changes. It is still His plan for His people to minister to the widows and the orphans! Your donations and your prayers do just that; minister to the least of these! We need your continued help even more than in the past.

It was in 1998 that God gave us the vision for a Christian fostercare/adoption agency in Hawaii. It is amazing to think that some of the children whose lives were touched by this ministry are well into their teens. And the first 17 year old foster youth that was placed in a HOPE INC, Inc. adoptive home has made it through college. At his graduation celebration he made special mention to thank his adoptive parents for their commitment to him and his ups and downs through early adulthood.

During 2011, although it has been challenging financially and organizationally, eight children’s adoptions finalized; both private and public. Six other foster children’s adoptions are scheduled to finalize as soon as the court paper work is ready. And if all goes as planned, during January 2012 six more foster children will be placed in HOPE INC, Inc. adoptive homes. Ten adopted children and their families benefited from trainings and support groups.

In June 2011 HOPE INC, Inc. ended the state contract that paid us to find adoptive homes for foster children. Our board made that decision to give us the freedom to decide what type of adoptive family we will place children in. And yes, we are still providing the same state wide services to Hawaii DHS Child Welfare. The state just isn’t paying for those services any longer.

In July HOPE INC, Inc. was awarded a training and support services contract by the state, but in November the state ended that contract due to Hawaii’s economic situation. Consequently we closed down our Oahu office and we no longer have fulltime employees on Oahu. But once again we are still providing the same services, even on Oahu; the state just isn’t paying us for those services either.

Our main office (note the new address below) is once again in the Wallace home, this time in Papaikou on the Big Island. And we continue to do all we know to do to recruit, train, license and provide post placement support to families who will adopt children who would otherwise stand alone, as well as birth mothers who are experiencing untimely pregnancies or challenges raising their children. We thank the Lord for providing a wonderful new Masters in Social Worker, Jessica Wertz! And thank you to the Wertz family (six adopted foster children) who share their mom with HOPE INC, Inc. so Deeanna doesn’t have to do all the work.

When there are enough donations Deeanna and Jessica receive paychecks. Kanani and Brigitte who have served as our social workers for four years on Oahu have other fulltime jobs but are available to help HOPE INC, Inc. a few hours now and then if the funding for their help is available.

The challenges we have faced this year may have slowed things down but they have also been a refining fire and we are being polished to do a more excellent job as well as prepare for bigger and better ways to help children and families who are at risk. The development of Dayspring Village is still in the works even though the land has yet to be provided. Our prayer is that in 2012 the first home and some job training for foster youth as well as the therapeutic horseback riding component will begin.

For those of you who give regular donations we are so thankful each time your check arrives. For those of you, who have given occasionally or not yet given, please consider making a commitment to give in 2012. Let’s take care of the orphans in our own back yard rather than depend on our government to be their parents.

Hundreds of children in the State of Hawaii are in need of forever families. Maybe YOU are being called to adopt one of these precious ones.

Currently, in Hawaii, there are children and teenagers whose only permanent parent is the state of Hawaii. These children are modern day orphans living among us. Their birthparents’ rights had to be terminated so they could have an opportunity for safety, security and happiness throughout their lives.

Unfortunately, while these children are now safe, they don’t yet have the security and happiness they deserve because they have no adoptive families to call their own. Many live in multiple temporary foster homes and are at risk of moving into adulthood with no forever family. Many are older and desire to be part of a family, but most people don’t know of their desperate need.

HOPE INC (In the Name of Christ), a Christian adoption agency and Hawaii Family Forum have partnered with the State Department of Human Services to recruit, train and support families from the faith based community willing to provide a forever home to one of these needy children.

If you or someone you know would be willing to open your heart and home to a child without a family, please contact us.

There are several steps to becoming an approved foster/adoptive family. The forms and resources can be found on our “Become a Foster/Adoptive Family” page.

Mark your calendars for Orphan Sunday on Sunday November 6, 2011

One Day – One Voice – One Purpose

Orphan Sunday is a nationally recognized day fixed on a permanent date (the first Sunday of every November) on the Christian Calendar – when the worship, preaching and teaching are focused on the call of the Church to “look after” the orphans in their distress and the body of Christ is mobilized to act in love on behalf of the worlds orphans.

Orphan Sunday 2011 from Christian Alliance for Orphans on Vimeo.

Orphan Sunday’s Mission is to engage the Christian Church in the call to “look after” the orphans of the world with one voice and with a focused and collective effort that demonstrates the love of Christ to the orphans and to the world.

Orphan Sunday’s Goals are…..

Educate the Church about the plight of the orphans

Engage the Church in a sustained, compassionate and comprehensive response on behalf of the orphans

Unite the Church in purpose and intent with a focused effort that will become a global movement

Direct the resources of the Church to specific Christian ministries and programs that are transforming the lives of orphans and their communities in the name of Jesus Christ.

Orphan Sunday’s Purpose…..

Orphan Sunday is an event for the global Christian Church and is not intended to benefit any one particular ministry to orphans and vulnerable children. As such, organizers encourage churches, to work with ministries that they believe are serving orphans and their communities in the name of Jesus Christ.

At the Christian Alliance for Orphan’s micro site for Orphan Sunday you will find instructional materials and other resources useful in building a local Orphan Sunday event. These will include Sermon notes, Sunday school plans for youth or adults, videos, and other materials.

To support HOPE INC’s efforts in making a difference in the lives of Hawaii’s orphans please pray about making a contribution to our ministry.
