#1 – Where do we go now?

In this photo you see me alone.  An uncommon situation for me .  I am not often alone.  Here I am pondering where to go next.  On this rare day I actually went hours without hearing one child say, “mom”.  Another uncommon situation.  Myself and another couple, special friends who have a specific purpose in our lives, had followed my wonderful husband Randy into the woods on a hunting road.  Eventually Randy tired of the road and decided we’d follow a wild pig trail.  It didn’t take long before he just had to find the river…  so you guessed it, through the woods we went.  Crawling under brush, tripping over roots, passing amazing moss, swatting the mosquitoes, pondering over a variety of trees.  Finally we came to the much sought after river.  Then the questions came….. “Now where do we go?  Do we go down river?  Do we go back the way we came?  Do we go over the river? How far away is our car? Do we give up? Will our friends want to keep following us?  Will they still want to be our friends?”

At this moment I am asking myself similar questions about blogging.  “Where do I go with this?  How do I start a blog?  Should I give up? Will anyone really want to read a blog that I write? If they do read it will they still like me?”  I am realizing that we often find our selves with similar questions.  We follow direction that comes to us and eventually we look around and ask, “Where do we go now?  Should I give up?  Will others follow me?  Will they accept me if I go there?  Will it always be so hard?”  Just as we have received direction that I should blog, over and over actually,  we have received direction many times in life that bring us to these places when we have to ask, “Where do we go now?”

Seven months ago Randy and I moved our family from our very comfortable home of 13 years on Oahu to the Big Island.  We had been given confirmed direction for months that we were to move.  This move was to pursue our long time vision of establishing a special community for children from hard places on agricultural property.   At that time we were led to believe that a 10 acre farm was available to HOPE INC, so we rented a house right next door to the farm.  Three months into this exciting adventure it became apparent that this particular farm was not the correct location.  “So where do we go now?”  We are still waiting for that answer.

At the above mentioned river, the answer came quickly.  Over the river we went.  On the other side we discovered some of the biggest bamboo we have ever seen and enjoyed post card views of mountain waters rushing over rocks of all shapes and sizes. And yes, we even found the place where we had left the car.

The bigger “Where do we go now?” questions aren’t always answered so easily or quickly.  Especially when it comes to following God out of our comfort zone.

It might be that you would like to adopt children.   It might be that you have adopted children.  It might be that God has challenged you to serve him in a new place.   It won’t always be easy or comfortable but you can rest assured that where ever HE leads you, HE will direct your steps.

Trust in the Lord with all you heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek HIS will in all you do and HE will direct your paths. Proverbs 3:5-6

Its pretty amazing what you are going through and how you respond to it, Deeanna and Randy. From one director of a faith-based non-profit to another, I know how there are so many ups and downs. I went through an episode like that last year. I admire your faith. God must love and trust you so much to put you through all your are going through. I can attest as well that he is faithful. Not in our time and not in our plans. But he is faithful. All that you are doing is preparation for the time that the blessings will fall again. Before the great rain, there is often drought. So hang in there and I will remember you in my times of prayer and seeking

By the way, isn’t it incredible what is happening in Japan now? What a time to be in that country! Let’s pray for a spiritual awakening that will sweep the country into the love of Jesus.
