“The Same Four Walls” is a poem written by Alyssa Brown back in 2004 while she was in foster care “wishing and hoping that someday, somehow, someone would give her love”. Her personal words were shared during a church presentation by HOPE INC on an Adoption Awareness Sunday in 2007. Being moved by the message that was shared, her poem was then set to music and recorded by Holyjam. Alyssa’s poem was presented back to Alyssa as a song in 2008 by HOPE INC as she left Hawaii. She is still waiting for a “Forever Family”.

A girl all alone in her little world,
Wishing and hoping that someday, somehow, someone would give her love
And take her from her little world cuz she sits in her room day and night seeking love
But it has not yet come
All she sees is the same four walls and the same old things
She needs to be helped
She needs to be taken someplace new.
She needs someone new.
She needs love.
She needs a mother and a father who care and love her
She needs someone to cry on.
She needs you!
But until she finds the thing that she needs . . .
She will still be in her little world day after day year after year until love comes.
Because that’s all she can do right?
Cuz I should know.
